Shared values and goals are essential to advance a successful movement.
A society and economic system based on common sense will look brilliant compared to what we have now.
A transformed suburban property is great. A transformed apartment complex even better. Neighbors taking fences down, businesses reorganizing into cooperatives, restoring acres of clearcuts. All those are wonderful examples of paradigm shift but the scale of moving towards sustainability and the up lift of society needs to be far greater and happening at a faster pace.
To assume capitalism and the consumer culture will embrace sustainability and paradigm shift is wishful thinking.
From this perspective, any hope of a livable, sustainable, uplifted present and future is up to those who want to live it and see it make it happen, starting in their own lives, homes, neighborhoods and communities.
In this section, we will see we ALREADY have an enormous popular and horizontal movement for paradigm shift. Virtually every progressive public interest organization and movement, large or small, exists to address the damage - social, economic, environmental, spiritual - caused by capitalism and over consumption. All those entities are on the same team. They all have capacities that can help put the ideas of paradigm shift out to a wider audience starting with their own membership. They can all work more tactically and strategically with each other and produce far greater benefits for their members, society overall and the planet.
